Walton Academy’s year 7 girls football team continued to impress this month, taking part in two competitive fixtures that highlighted their teamwork, resilience and growing confidence on the pitch. Across both matches, the players demonstrated maturity beyond their years and represented the academy with pride.

Charles Read Academy 1 – Walton Academy 0

The team travelled to Charles Read Academy on Thursday 20 November, facing a strong mixed year 7 and 8 side in freezing conditions. Despite the challenge, Walton’s players approached the fixture with determination and a positive attitude from the first whistle.

Emily and Lilah worked tirelessly to stay organised defensively, helping the team remain compact against physically strong opponents. Grace, Mia S and Maya led the attacking play, continuing to press forward whenever opportunities arose. There were standout moments across the pitch, including brilliant tackles from Kendija and excellent saves from goalkeeper Mia N, who showed great composure under pressure.

Although the match ended in a narrow 1–0 defeat, Walton’s resilience was clear throughout. The players supported one another on and off the pitch, showcasing the strong team spirit developing within the squad. This valuable learning experience will no doubt strengthen their preparation for future fixtures.

Maya B and Mia N were named Players of the Match for their outstanding effort and contribution throughout the game.

Walton Academy 5 – Kesteven and Grantham Girls’ School 3

On Monday 24 November, just days after their previous outing, the year 7 team returned to action with an impressive performance in their indoor fixture against Kesteven and Grantham Girls’ School (KGGS). From the outset, Walton played with high energy and intent, pressing well and maintaining excellent communication.

Grace opened the scoring with a confident finish, quickly setting the tone for the match. Maya added a superb strike shortly after, before captain Mia S took control of the game with two clinical goals. Lilah sealed the victory late on, securing a well-deserved 5–3 win.

KGGS battled hard and kept the contest competitive, but Walton remained composed throughout, balancing strong attacking play with disciplined defence. Emily’s exceptional work rate and Mia S’s leadership were key to maintaining control during crucial moments.

Mia S and Emily received Player of the Match recognition for their exceptional work and influence across the game.

A Strong week for the team

These fixtures showcased not only the talent within the year 7 squad but also their commitment to improving with every game. Congratulations to all involved for two excellent performances and for representing Walton Academy so brilliantly.
