Governors play an important role in trying to ensure that every student at the academy gets the best possible education.  They are required by law to focus on three core strategic functions:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the academy and its students, plus the performance management of staff
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the academy and making sure its money is well spent

Welcome from the Chair of Governors

On behalf of the Governing Body, I’d like to welcome you to Walton. The academy is proud of its collaborative approach to ensuring that our vision and values are evident at all times; parents, students, staff and governors work together to create and maintain a high performing environment where all pupils achieve their full potential.

Walton has an established reputation for putting students first, which continues beyond the classroom. We provide opportunities to nurture existing talents, as well as opportunities to try new things, enabling our young people to develop a range of skills. The behaviour of pupils within the academy is outstanding, due to the positive ethos and culture of mutual respect. We have been showcased as exemplary providers of personal development, behaviour and welfare leadership amongst our peers in other schools nationally. This is a welcome recognition of the efforts afforded to creating a culture of safeguarding for all. In our most recent Full Academy Review, superb outcomes for all students were rightly attributed to the outstanding leadership throughout the academy, and our emphasis on outward facing collaboration to receive challenge and support.

I am extremely proud to be chair of a body with relentless drive to improve outcomes. The academy’s dedication to ‘Excellence, Commitment, Courage, Ownership’ is clear in all it does, and our latest exam results are evidence that we are moving from strength to strength in terms of the levels of success our students achieve. I look forward to meeting as many as you as possible over the coming year.

Rachel Webb
Chair of Governors
