At Walton, we are dedicated to providing personalised support and guidance to all our students. Our pastoral system is designed to ensure that every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to succeed.

Year group structure

Our pastoral system is organised around academic year groups, with dedicated staff members assigned to oversee the well-being and academic progress of students:

Head of Year: Each year group is led by a Head of Year who plays a senior role in student support and coordination of pastoral activities. The Head of Year provides overall supervision and guidance for the year group, ensuring that student issues are appropriately escalated and addressed. They serve as a key leader within the pastoral team, supporting students, parents, and teachers as needed.
Pastoral Mentors: Supporting the Head of Year, pastoral mentors are assigned to each year group to offer additional guidance and support. They work closely with students to address academic, social, and emotional needs, fostering holistic development.
Form Tutors: Students begin each day with tutor time, an integral part of our pastoral support system. During tutor time, students engage in activities from our character curriculum, focusing on personal development and values. During this time, students can share concerns and seek support, with the opportunity for pastoral assistance to be provided as needed.

Safeguarding and well-being

We take great pride in fostering a safeguarding culture at Walton, where everyone shares responsibility for ensuring the safety and well-being of our students. Safeguarding is paramount, and we are committed to maintaining a secure environment at all times.

In addition to providing exceptional pastoral care, we prioritise educating our students on staying safe online and in society. We keep students informed about appropriate methods of communication for seeking support or reporting concerns while at the academy.

Our dedicated safeguarding team, led by Mrs K Dolby and supported by experienced staff members, ensures that students receive the help they need. For more information on safeguarding resources and policies, please visit our Safeguarding Information Page.

Our commitment

We are here to ensure that every student at Walton feels valued, supported, and equipped to achieve their full potential. Together, we cultivate a positive and nurturing environment where students can thrive.
