Walton Academy’s year 7 girls’ football team travelled to St. George’s Academy on Wednesday 4 March to take part in an under‑13 indoor football tournament – an event where many schools fielded predominantly year 8 teams. Despite being the youngest squad there, our girls rose brilliantly to the challenge.

As the competition started, they faced two strong, physical year 8 sides and, although both matches ended in defeat, the girls grew in confidence and quality with every game. The remaining fixture saw the team settle their nerves and find their footing, earning a well‑deserved draw through determined defending and some sharp counter‑attacking play.

What truly stood out was their attitude. They supported each other throughout, battled for every loose ball, and showed genuine teamwork and resilience. By the final whistle of the tournament, they were playing their best football of the afternoon – moving the ball with purpose, pressing bravely, and showing glimpses of the exciting team they are becoming.

Unfortunately, the results weren’t enough to secure a place in the next round, but the team should be incredibly proud of their performances. Against older opposition, they gave everything, represented the school superbly, and showed tremendous promise for future competitions.
