Our year 7 girls’ and boys’ football teams took on Charles Read Academy on Wednesday 4 November, in two fixtures that provided plenty of opportunities to demonstrate their skills, determination and teamwork.
While the matches brought different results, both teams represented Walton with enthusiasm and a fantastic attitude.
Year 7 girls secure impressive 8–4 victory
Walton Academy 8–4 Charles Read Academy
The year 7 girls produced an excellent attacking display to secure an impressive 8–4 victory over Charles Read Academy in an entertaining four-quarter match.
Walton made the perfect start, racing into a 2–0 lead with two early goals from Lola. At the other end, Sinead was called into action and produced a fantastic save off the post to keep Walton in front. Gracie caused problems down the right wing with some excellent runs, while Ivy put in a strong defensive performance at the back.
The second quarter saw Charles Read respond well, catching Walton napping and pulling a goal back with a well-worked move. However, Walton regrouped quickly and extended their lead with three more goals. Sinead got herself on the scoresheet, while Lola continued her excellent form, completing her hat-trick and adding further goals to her tally.
Charles Read continued to battle throughout the game and were rewarded with several more goals of their own, ensuring an entertaining contest for those watching.
Gracie worked tirelessly and created several chances but was unfortunate not to find the back of the net. Louisa and Ayla both grew in confidence as the game progressed, making valuable contributions and giving their all for the team.
As the game entered its final stages, Adriana put the result beyond doubt with two outstanding strikes from outside the penalty area. Her first effort flew into the top left corner before she followed it up with another superb finish into the bottom corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.
A fantastic team performance saw Walton run out deserved 8–4 winners.

Year 7 boys show determination against older opposition
Our year 7 boys were excited to take part in their first ever football fixture against Charles Read Academy. However, due to a miscommunication, they found themselves facing a strong and established year 8 team rather than the year 7 opposition they had expected.
Despite the challenge, Walton were determined to give their best and use the match as a valuable learning experience.
With Charles Read kicking off the first quarter, Walton pressed hard, looking to regain possession and create opportunities. The hosts proved strong opponents and took the lead during a relentless opening period.
The second quarter saw Walton produce an excellent spell of football, with their hard work rewarded by a brilliantly taken goal from Jake, following a superb assist from Afonso.
As the third and fourth quarters progressed, Charles Read continued to demonstrate their experience and strength, eventually securing the victory. However, Walton never gave up, continuing to work hard and encourage one another until the final whistle.
The boys can take great pride in their performance against a team that had drawn with Walton’s year 8 side just a couple of weeks earlier.
With so much effort and determination on display, it was impossible to select just one player of the match. Instead, every member of the team deserves recognition for their contribution.
Although the result didn’t go Walton’s way, the boys showed tremendous resilience, determination and team spirit in their first fixture.
A huge well done to every player for their efforts. There is plenty to build on as the team looks ahead to future matches.
More than just the final score
Well done to both our year 7 teams for representing Walton Academy with such pride! Whether celebrating a victory or facing a challenging opponent, both teams demonstrated fantastic teamwork, determination and a positive attitude.
