Today, Walton Academy’s year 9 students are participating in a stay safe day, an initiative delivered by Lincolnshire County Council’s Stay Safe Partnership. This programme equips young people with essential knowledge and skills to navigate challenges and stay safe in today’s world.
The Stay Safe Partnership is a collaboration of multiple organisations and voluntary agencies dedicated to prevention education. For Walton Academy, they are conducting age-appropriate workshops that provide year 9 students with valuable insights on staying safe across key topics.
Key topics covered
During the stay safe day, students engage in workshops and activities addressing a variety of important topics, including:
- Online safety: Understanding risks and staying secure in the digital world.
- Healthy relationships: Recognising respectful and positive interactions.
- Alcohol and drug awareness: Identifying dangers and making informed choices.
- Hate crime and anti-social behaviour: Promoting tolerance and understanding.
- Knife crime awareness: Understanding the consequences and staying safe.
- Fire and road safety: Practical guidance to avoid accidents and harm.
Spotlight on online safety
Education on digital safety is more important than ever. One of the workshops focuses on platforms like Snapchat, a popular app among young people. Students will learn about the risks associated with such apps and ways to use them safely.
Supporting the school community
At Walton Academy, we are committed to providing a comprehensive education that empowers our students to thrive academically, socially, and personally, while equipping them with the tools to stay safe in an ever-changing world. This is why we value the essential education provided by Lincolnshire County Council’s Stay Safe Partnership. By addressing a wide range of safety topics, the stay safe day fosters awareness, resilience, and confidence, empowering students to make informed decisions and stay safe in all aspects of their lives.
