How will Level 3 information technology be delivered?

The course is taught over two years through a blend of practical IT workshops, classroom-based theory, and project-based assignments. Students complete four units, combining internally assessed coursework with externally assessed exams and tasks.

Assessment

Assessment is through a combination of external and internal methods:

  • Unit 1: Information technology systems – Written exam (externally marked) – 33% of overall grade
  • Unit 2: Creating systems to manage information – Controlled assessment task (externally marked) – 25% of overall grade
  • Unit 3: Using social media in business – Internally assessed coursework – 21% of overall grade
  • Unit 5: Data modelling – Internally assessed coursework – 21% of overall grade

All assessments are completed over the two-year course. There is no coursework component for the externally assessed units.

The qualification carries UCAS points and is recognised by higher education providers. It also equips students with skills relevant to a range of entry-level careers in IT.
