Today, Walton Academy had the pleasure of hosting another successful curriculum enrichment day, welcoming year 5 pupils from Gonerby Hill Foot Church of England Primary School and The West Grantham Church of England Primary Academy. The event is part of Walton Academy’s Primary Connections initiative, designed to build strong links with local primary schools and support pupils as they prepare for the transition to secondary education.

Pupils received a warm welcome in the Walton Theatre before embarking on a full day of subject-based sessions across the academy. Accompanied by staff from their schools and supported by Walton student leaders, pupils took part in a range of exciting lessons including French, science, art, food technology, performing arts, and health and social care.

In science, students were fascinated by an engaging hands-on investigation involving a troll experiment, while the performing arts session got pupils moving with a lively Addams Family dance routine. Elsewhere, pupils explored creative techniques in art, developed key practical skills in food technology, and gained insights into health and social care lessons.

The day also offered pupils a taste of life on a secondary school campus, rotating between specialist classrooms and teachers, with break and lunch on the school field where they enjoyed their packed lunches and time to socialise.

Staff accompanying the pupils were impressed by the organisation of the day and the support offered by Walton’s student leaders, who were on hand throughout to guide groups, answer questions and ensure everyone felt welcome.

Curriculum Enrichment Coordinator, Mrs Morton, said:

“It’s been a fantastic day welcoming pupils from our local primary schools. The enrichment programme offers young learners a wonderful chance to explore new subjects and experience the buzz of secondary school life. We’re proud to support their journey and help make the transition both exciting and inspiring.”

We look forward to welcoming three more schools tomorrow – Poplar Farm Primary School, St. Mary’s Catholic Primary School, and St. Wulfram’s National Church of England Primary School – for another enriching day of discovery and learning.

These events are an important part of Walton Academy’s ongoing commitment to community engagement and raising aspirations for the next generation of learners.
