Last night marked the opening night of Matilda The Musical Jr. – and what a fantastic start it was to this year’s Walton Theatre production.

After months of hard work and preparation, the curtain finally rose on Tuesday 17 March, bringing an electric atmosphere of energy and excitement to the stage. From the very first moment, the audience was completely drawn in by the confidence, talent and commitment of our students.

With a company of over 60 students involved both on stage and behind the scenes, this was a true whole-school production. From the captivating performances and polished choreography to the seamless technical elements, every detail reflected the dedication and teamwork that has gone into making this show such a success.

Mr Slepowronski, arts coordinator, shared his pride in the production:

“It’s been wonderful to have such a large cast for this show. It has been terrific working with our post 16 Arts Award Gold students, who have helped to create the set pieces alongside Mr Bridge, our art technician. Many of them have also taken on key technical roles, including sound and lighting. It’s exciting to now be preparing for our final two shows, which are sold out.”

The production not only showcases the incredible talent of our performers, but also highlights the creativity, skill and commitment of those working behind the scenes. From set design to technical production, students have played a vital role in bringing the world of Matilda to life.

Today, the cast will take to the stage once again for a special matinee performance for approximately 200 pupils from local primary schools – Ingoldsby Academy, Gonerby Hill Foot Primary School and Grantham Preparatory International School.

With two sold-out performances still to come, Matilda The Musical Jr. is already proving to be a standout moment in this year’s school calendar. Congratulations to everyone involved on such a brilliant opening night.
