Students at Walton Academy have been exploring important themes around personal safety, decision-making and recognising risk through a two-day programme of workshops and live performance.
Professional physical theatre company Justice in Motion visited the academy this week with CODE, an innovative production which uses theatre, parkour, movement, music and live rap to explore some of the situations and pressures young people may encounter as they grow up.
Year 7 students began the experience by taking part in interactive workshops with the Justice in Motion team. Through discussion and creative activities, they were encouraged to think about personal safety, positive choices and how to recognise situations in which they or others may need support.
Today, students in years 7 and 8 attended a live performance of CODE, bringing many of those conversations to life through storytelling and physical theatre.
The production explores themes including peer pressure, county lines, knife crime and criminal exploitation, presenting them in an age-appropriate way that encourages young people to think, ask questions and understand the importance of seeking help from trusted adults.
The experience forms part of Walton Academy’s wider approach to personal development and safeguarding education, helping students build the knowledge, confidence and awareness they need as they navigate the world beyond the classroom.
By combining learning with an engaging live arts experience, CODE has provided students with a memorable and creative way to explore important issues while encouraging conversation and reflection.
