Today, Walton Academy came together to honour those who gave their lives in service during times of war. In a moving tribute held on Monday 11 November 2024, students and staff gathered to observe Armistice Day with deep respect and reflection.
The service itself was a poignant moment for the school. Principal Jess Leonard opened the ceremony with a recitation of the Exhortation, setting a reflective tone for the event. As the familiar notes of The Last Post, played by Mr Warman, filled the air, the academy stood still, remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice. The entire community then joined together in two minutes of silence, a deeply shared moment of quiet contemplation. The Reveille followed, marking the return to the present and symbolising hope and renewal after the silence.
What made today’s service especially impactful was the participation of students from local cadet forces and community groups. Dressed in their uniforms, these students became symbols of the academy’s respect for the diverse ways people serve and contribute to their communities.
The morning of reflection served as a meaningful reminder of the unity at Walton Academy, as the school gathered to honour the past and acknowledge shared values of respect and gratitude. Today’s service was a fitting tribute to the strength and togetherness within the academy community.
