Sir William Robertson Academy 4 – Walton Academy 5
On Tuesday 12 December, the year 8 boys from Walton Academy travelled to Sir William Robertson Academy (SWRA) for what turned out to be an exhilarating friendly fixture. The weather may have been a bit wet, but the spirits of both teams remained undampened as they delivered an unforgettable performance on the pitch.
SWRA seized the early lead, capitalising on a defensive mix-up, but Walton responded swiftly. A beautiful team goal, orchestrated by the talented Lyric, saw the scoreline level. However, SWRA wasn’t ready to relinquish their lead, responding with a clinical strike that put them back in front. Undeterred, Walton showcased resilience, and Lyric once again played a pivotal role, this time delivering a cross that found the top corner of the net, levelling the score once more.
Just when it seemed the first half was heading to a draw, Brian stunned everyone with a perfectly judged long-range effort in the dying moments, giving Walton a 3-2 lead at halftime. The halftime team talk by Mr Musson seemed to have worked wonders as Walton returned to the pitch with renewed vigour.
Brian continued his impressive form, adding a fourth goal early in the second half, extending Walton’s lead to 2-4. However, SWRA displayed commendable fighting spirit, scoring a well-taken goal to make it 3-4. The battle continued as Daniel, bursting through the middle, notched Walton’s fifth goal, making it 3-5.
As the match approached its conclusion, SWRA managed to narrow the gap with a fourth goal, setting the stage for a nervy final five minutes. Walton’s defence, however, stood resolute, securing a hard-fought 4-5 victory.
Special appreciation goes Walton Post 16 student. Joe, who officiated the game with excellence. His control and impartiality ensured a fair contest. The player of the match title rightfully went to Darius, whose unbelievable defending throughout the game played a crucial role in securing Walton Academy’s triumph.
A big round of applause to all the players for their outstanding performance, turning a friendly fixture into a memorable clash. This victory adds another chapter to Walton Academy’s footballing success, and the team eagerly anticipates more thrilling matches on the horizon. Well done, team Walton!
