Walton Academy students have embarked on an unforgettable trip to the vibrant city of Barcelona. Their journey began on Wednesday 25 June as they travelled from the academy and after settling into Urbany Hostel in the heart of the city, the group spent their first evening exploring the famous Eixample district, marvelling at some of Antoni Gaudí’s most iconic buildings – La Sagrada Familia, Casa Batlló and La Pedrera – before enjoying their evening meal at a local Spanish restaurant.
Yesterday began with a continental breakfast at the hostel, before students set off on foot and by Metro to take part in a lively and engaging flamenco workshop at Escola Luthier de Música i Dansa. From there, they explored the bustling La Boqueria market and took in the historic atmosphere of the Gothic Quarter and La Rambla. Later in the afternoon, the group visited Parc Güell, where students had the chance to admire panoramic views of the city and enjoy more of Gaudí’s distinctive architecture. They ended the day with a well-earned meal at Vapiano Gran Via before heading back to the hostel to rest.
Today, students are enjoying a full day of fun and adventure at PortAventura, one of Europe’s most exciting theme parks. With everything from thrilling roller coasters to immersive attractions, the park offers a well-deserved break from sightseeing and a chance for students to enjoy some free time with their peers. After returning to the hostel this evening, they’ll round off the day with another visit to L’Olivera restaurant.
Throughout the trip, students have had the opportunity to practise their Spanish in authentic settings, gain cultural insights, and deepen their understanding of the language and way of life in Spain. The experience complements their studies and offers real-world connections to the Key Stage 3 Spanish curriculum.
A huge thank you goes to the dedicated staff supporting the trip whose time, care and organisation are making this a safe, enriching and truly memorable experience for all involved.
With one day left before returning home, students are making the most of every moment in this beautiful and inspiring city.
