Today, Walton Academy had the pleasure of hosting a successful curriculum enrichment day, welcoming year 5 students from three local primary schools: Huntingtower Community Primary Academy, the West Grantham Church of England Primary Academy and St. Mary’s Catholic Primary School. This event was part of Walton Academy’s Primary Connections initiative, which aims to foster meaningful engagement and support the academic and personal development of primary school pupils.
The day began with a warm welcome presentation in the Walton Theatre, where students were introduced to their timetable for the day. The 60 pupils attending were split into three groups, each accompanied by staff members and Walton Academy’s student leaders, who acted as guides throughout the day. The structured programme included sessions in science, art, history, health and social care, PE, performing arts, maths, and food technology.
One of the highlights was the PE sessions on the playing field, where the sunny weather made the physical activities even more enjoyable. The pupils participated enthusiastically in various sports and games, showcasing their energy and team spirit.
Break and lunch times were spent on the school field, allowing pupils to enjoy their packed lunches in a relaxed and friendly environment. The feedback from primary school staff members who accompanied the children was overwhelmingly positive.
Mrs Hand from Huntingtower Community Primary Academy commented, “The day was really well organised. It was a great opportunity for the children to experience the structure of a school day in a secondary school, with different lessons and teachers.”
Mrs Davey from St. Mary’s Catholic Primary School praised the event, saying, “Nothing was too much trouble for the student leaders. They answered all the children’s questions and kept them engaged. They were so polite. The children absolutely loved the troll experiment!”
Principal Jess Leonard commented on the success of the day, stating, “We are thrilled to have had the opportunity to host these young pupils and introduce them to the vibrant learning environment at Walton Academy. It was a fantastic day of exploration and discovery for everyone involved.”
We look forward to hosting another curriculum enrichment day, on Tuesday 25 June, with three other local primary schools. Events like these continue to inspire and support the next generation of learners, and we are excited for more opportunities to engage with our community.
