On Wednesday 18 March, Walton Academy was delighted to welcome pupils from Ingoldsby Academy, Gonerby Hill Foot Primary School and The Grantham Preparatory International School for a special matinee performance of Matilda The Musical Jr.
The performance formed part of Walton’s Primary Connections initiative, which aims to strengthen links with local schools while providing younger pupils with opportunities to experience live theatre and the performing arts.
For many of the visiting pupils, this was a chance to see a full-scale theatre production up close – and the impact was clear. Staff from the visiting schools were full of praise for both the production and the experience it provided:
“It was a fantastic performance – the children loved it! The main cast were fabulous.” – Mr Hughes, Grantham Preparatory International School
“Absolutely amazing! It exceeded all expectations.” – Miss Scofield, Ingoldsby Academy
“We were blown away! The children said it was better than the movie.” – Mrs Anderton, Gonerby Hill Foot Primary School
The matinee not only showcased the talent and dedication of Walton students, but also highlighted the important role the arts play in bringing communities together and inspiring the next generation.
Through initiatives like Primary Connections, Walton Academy continues to create meaningful opportunities for young people to engage with the arts, develop their confidence and experience the creativity of live performance.
A huge well done to everyone involved in delivering such a memorable experience for our visiting schools.
