Charles Read Academy 4 – Walton Academy 4

On Thursday 8 November, Walton Academy’s year 8 football team were excited to play their first match of the season away to Charles Read Academy. In a game filled with action, skill, and determined comeback spirit, Walton held their opponents to an intense 4-4 draw, extending their unbeaten streak.

The game began cautiously, with both sides unwilling to make early errors. However, in the 8th minute, Charles Read broke the deadlock with a corner kick that deflected off a Walton defender, putting the home team ahead 1-0. Moments later, Charles Read doubled their lead with a quick strike in the 13th minute, making it 2-0. Walton responded with resilience, finding their rhythm in midfield and involving their wingers. Sonny took advantage, scoring twice before halftime to level the score at 2-2.

During halftime, the focus was on maintaining intensity, keeping the defence compact, and utilising the wide players to press forward. Both teams made changes at the break, and the increased pace was evident as Charles Read once again took the lead in the 40th minute (3-2). Walton responded in kind, with Sonny completing his hat-trick by cutting inside onto his left foot and scoring the equaliser in the 45th minute (3-3).

As the game drew toward its final moments, Charles Read struck again with a counterattack, making it 4-3. However, Walton refused to accept defeat. With tactical changes and unwavering determination, they pushed forward in search of a last-minute equaliser. In the dying seconds, Walton won a corner, which found its way past the defenders. Sonny chased it down, sending in a cross that Charles Read’s goalkeeper misjudged, allowing Levi to seize the moment and score the dramatic equaliser (4-4).

The final whistle blew amidst celebrations, as Walton Academy preserved their unbeaten record. Credit goes to every player for their determination and character, making for a thrilling start to the season.

For his dedication and work ethic on the field, Leo was named Walton’s Man of the Match. Meanwhile, Sonny earned the title of Hat-Trick Hero for his three outstanding goals that played a crucial role in keeping Walton in the game.
