On Monday 9 June, year 8 students from Walton Academy set off on their long-awaited adventure to Normandy, France. The group arrived safely at their destination, Le Château de Chantereine in the picturesque town of Criel-sur-Mer, and have already begun immersing themselves in French language, culture, and history.

The evening was spent enjoying a meal together and taking part in fun social activities – an opportunity for students to bond and unwind after a busy day of travel.

Today, the itinerary is in full swing. Students have already visited several significant historical sites, including the Thiepval Memorial and Lochnagar Crater, deepening their understanding of World War I. This afternoon they are exploring the Musée Somme 1916, with staff on hand to support students in connecting these real-world experiences to their classroom learning.

Throughout the week, students will continue to practise their French speaking and listening skills, take part in cultural activities such as a local market mission and beach visit in Le Tréport, and enjoy a thrilling day out at Parc Astérix. The trip will finish with a visit to a traditional biscuit factory and a scenic picnic before the journey home on Friday.

Special thanks go to the dedicated staff members – Miss Lucas, Mr Holmes, Mrs Sutton, Miss Charity and Miss Sheppard – who are accompanying and guiding the students throughout this remarkable and enriching experience.
