Why choose A level photography?
Photography is a creative and technical subject that enables students to express ideas visually through the skilful use of photographic media. This course introduces students to a range of photographic styles, techniques, and processes, helping them develop independent themes and responses.
Students learn how to use both digital and film cameras, gaining practical experience in the darkroom and the Photoshop suite. A strong emphasis is placed on experimentation, research, and personal development. The course is further enriched by visits to galleries, providing inspiration and real-world context for their work.
Course type: A level
Board: AQA
Entry requirement: No prior qualification in photography is required; however, a strong interest in the subject is essential. Students without a GCSE in photography may be asked to submit a portfolio.
How will A level photography be delivered?
Photography is delivered through practical studio and darkroom work, research-led tasks, and independent project development. Students are encouraged to explore ideas, take creative risks, and refine technical skills over the two years.
