How will A level psychology be delivered?

The A level psychology course is structured around three exam papers, each covering key areas of psychological theory and research. Students will study a broad range of topics, building knowledge and understanding through both theoretical concepts and practical research methods.

You will study:

  • Introductory topics in psychology – covering research methods, memory, social influence, and approaches to psychology
  • Psychology in context – exploring psychological issues including psychopathology and biopsychology
  • Issues and options in psychology – examining issues and debates in psychology and optional topics such as relationships, aggression, or schizophrenia

Assessment

The A level psychology course is assessed through three written examinations at the end of the course:

  • Paper 1 – Introductory topics in psychology – 2 hours – 33.3% of A level
  • Paper 2 – Psychology in context – 2 hours – 33.3% of A level
  • Paper 3 – Issues and options in psychology – 2 hours – 33.3% of A level

There is no coursework component.
