On Tuesday 15 October, Walton Academy’s year 7 football team kicked off their season with an exhilarating encounter against a formidable Charles Read Academy side. The match ended in a hard-fought 3-3 draw, showcasing determination and skill from both teams.
Walton surged into the lead early on, with Oscar finding the net in the 5th minute, demonstrating great composure to finish expertly. However, Charles Read equalised shortly after with a well-placed header from a cross, levelling the score at 1-1.
As the first half progressed, Charles Read took control, scoring again in the 12th minute to lead 2-1 at halftime. Despite the setback, Walton’s resilience shone through.
The second half began with intensity. Oscar had two goals disallowed for offside, but did not give up, as Charles Read extended their lead to 3-1. Walton refused to back down, and Jack pulled one back with a powerful strike, narrowing the deficit to 3-2.
In a frantic final five minutes, Charles Read’s goalkeeper made several crucial saves, denying Walton from equalising. Jack came close with a fierce shot that struck the crossbar, leaving the home crowd on edge.
In the dying moments, Oscar made a brilliant run after a deflected through ball, finding himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper. He coolly slotted the ball home, completing a remarkable comeback to level the score at 3-3.

Jake and Thomas were named Walton Academy’s Players of the Match for their outstanding contributions on the field, demonstrating exceptional teamwork and skill throughout the game. However, the Overall Player of the Match was awarded to Charles Read’s goalkeeper, whose crucial saves played a pivotal role in denying Walton several scoring opportunities and securing the 3-3 draw.
