This morning, Walton Academy paused as a community to recognise Armistice Day and pay tribute to all those who served, and those who continue to serve, in times of conflict. Students and staff gathered together once again to show their respect through a calm, thoughtful act of remembrance.
The day began with local cadet and community groups attending the raising of the Union Jack at the front of the school. Their presence highlighted the connection between past and present forms of service and the ways young people take on responsibility and leadership.
The whole school then came together for a reflective ceremony. Principal, Jessica Leonard, addressed the academy offering words that encouraged quiet reflection and appreciation. Her reading of the Exhortation set a dignified tone, reminding everyone why this moment of the year is so significant.
As Mr Warman performed The Last Post, the academy fell silent. Students observed two minutes of complete silence with maturity and respect. The Reveille that followed marked a gentle return to the day, symbolising continuity, resilience, and hope.
Today’s gathering was a powerful reminder of the values shared across Walton Academy — respect, unity, and acknowledgement of those who came before us. It was a moment that brought the school together, offering space to pause, think, and reflect as one community.
