On Friday 13 March, students from Walton Academy marked British Science Week with a visit to the STEM Fair at Retford Oaks Academy, joining students from across the Diverse Academies Trust for a day of exploration and discovery.
Students from years 7 and 9 took part in a range of engaging activities designed to showcase the exciting world of science, technology, engineering and maths. The fair featured interactive exhibition stands, STEM quizzes and project displays, giving students the opportunity to deepen their understanding of how these subjects connect to real-world careers.
Throughout the day, students spoke with professionals from a variety of fields, learning about the skills and pathways linked to STEM industries. One of the highlights for many was the chance to step into the boots of a firefighter, experiencing some of the specialist equipment used in the role and gaining insight into this important emergency service career.
The event brought together students from several schools within the Diverse Academies Trust, creating a lively atmosphere where young people could ask questions, share ideas and discover new interests.
Taking place during British Science Week, the visit provided a valuable opportunity for Walton Academy students to see how STEM subjects extend beyond the classroom and play a vital role in shaping the world around us.
Experiences such as this support Walton Academy’s commitment to providing meaningful opportunities that broaden students’ understanding of future study and career pathways.
