After years of dedication, determination and hard work, year 13 students at Walton Academy – part of Diverse Academies Trust – gathered this morning to receive their much-anticipated Level 3 results.
Excitement and pride filled the academy as students opened their results and celebrated the achievements that reflect their individual journeys. For many, today marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter, with students progressing to university, further training and employment.
One of this year’s top performers was Cassidy Aust, who achieved exceptional grades with A* in sociology, A in religious studies, and A in geography. Cassidy will be continuing her studies in social work at Sheffield Hallam University and said: “I was really surprised when I saw my results, I’m so happy with them! My time in post 16 has definitely been some of my best years at Walton. Miss Cluley, our head of post 16, has given me so much support and I’m incredibly grateful for everything she’s done for me.”
Abigail Deans also achieved a fantastic set of results – A in drama and theatre studies, Distinction* in health and social care and Distinction in child play learning and development. Abigail will also be going to Sheffield Hallam University to study early years and primary education. She commented: “I’m super proud of myself after two very tough years and really happy to have achieved my very best. The support has been second to none and that was one of the reasons I chose to stay for post 16. I’m so grateful to all of my teachers for everything they’ve done to support me.”
Celebrations were in order for Oliver Millard, who secured his place at the University of Lincoln to study maths following his A* in maths, A* in further maths, and C in English literature. Oliver relayed he is “I’m really happy with my results and pleased that all the hard work has paid off. It was a lot of work and I’m really pleased with the outcome. I’ve really enjoyed my seven years at Walton Academy and feel that my time here has set me up well for the next stage.”
Archie Eagle achieved A in maths, B in further maths and B in biology. Archie is going to Newcastle University to continue his studies in maths and said: “I’m really happy that I got into university. It’s a bit scary knowing such a big change is coming, but I’m excited about it too. I couldn’t have done it without the support of my teachers, especially my biology teacher, Miss Manjunath. I’m really grateful for all the help and support I’ve had.”
Henry Flemming received Distinction* in applied science, Distinction in sport and B in biology, and is looking forward to joining the University of Exeter to study finance and business management. Henry said: “I’m really happy and relieved with my results and excited about starting university.”
Another superb result was achieved by Sribha Manimaran who earned A in psychology, Distinction* in health and social care, and B in biology. Sribha is going to study physiotherapy at the Manchester Metropolitan University and commented: “I’m so happy with my results and really proud of myself. I was educated in India and joined Walton for post 16 when I moved to England, so there was a lot to adjust to. Biology was particularly challenging because I hadn’t had the same experience of practical science before, but my teacher gave me so much support and helped me build my confidence. I’m really proud of how far I’ve come.”
Special mention is deserved for Tyler Young who achieved Distinction* in business enterprise, B in criminology and B in history. He will be taking a place at the University of Liverpool to study law with a year abroad. Tyler said: “I’ve had great support throughout my time here and really valued the opportunities I’ve been given, particularly being a house captain. I’m nervous about what comes next, but I feel ready and excited to take that next step.”
Jess Leonard, principal, said: “We are delighted to celebrate the exceptional achievements of our students today. Each result represents not only academic success, but also the determination, adaptability, and character they have shown throughout their time with us. I am delighted to see so many of our students moving on to exciting next steps, whether that is university, apprenticeships, or other chosen paths. I wish every one of them continued success in the future.
“My thanks go to our dedicated staff, supportive families, and of course our students, who should feel immensely proud of what they have accomplished.”
