Walton Academy welcomed prospective students and their families to its post 16 open evening on Thursday 15 October, offering an insight into a supportive and ambitious learning community where students are encouraged to develop their talents, build confidence and prepare for life beyond education.

The evening began with a welcome presentation from Head of Post 16, Mr Browning, and year 13 Senior Student, Jess. Mr Browning highlighted the strong relationships, sense of belonging and personalised support at the heart of Walton Post 16, while Jess introduced the range of core electives available to students, showcasing opportunities to broaden their experiences and develop skills beyond their academic studies.

A central message of the evening was Walton’s commitment to recognising students as individuals. Through personalised guidance, supportive relationships with staff and opportunities to explore their interests and abilities, students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning, develop independence and grow into confident, capable young adults.

Student leadership is an important part of this experience, providing opportunities to take on responsibility, contribute to academy life and develop valuable skills for the future. With plans to further develop these opportunities, Walton Post 16 is looking forward to building on its student-led culture and creating even more ways for young people to make a meaningful contribution to their community.

Following the presentation, visitors had the opportunity to meet subject teachers and current students, explore the range of A level and vocational courses available, and discover the academic and pastoral support offered throughout their post 16 journey.

Above all, the evening reflected Walton’s belief that post 16 education is about more than achieving qualifications. It is about nurturing individual strengths, encouraging ambition and providing the guidance and opportunities that help every student realise their potential.
