On Friday 7 November, Walton Post 16 students had the opportunity to take part in the British Library’s A-Level Conference: US Politics Today. The event offered a unique insight into American politics, with contributions from two former Members of the US Congress and leading academics.
Through a series of lively discussions, students explored key topics including The Presidency, Congress, the Supreme Court, and Elections and Democracy. Hearing directly from those who have experienced life at the heart of Washington D.C. allowed students to see the real-world relevance of political systems and debates.
This experience provided an exciting opportunity for students to broaden their understanding of global political systems. It encouraged them to think critically about how political decisions and power structures shape societies, supporting learning across History and Sociology.
Students joined the live conference sessions online, engaging fully with the discussions and insights shared by the speakers. Events like this demonstrate Walton Academy’s commitment to broadening students’ understanding of global issues and encouraging them to think critically about the world around them.
