Today, our year 7 students are taking part in stay safer partnership day, an important initiative delivered by Lincolnshire County Council’s Stay Safe Partnership, designed to equip young people with the knowledge, confidence and practical skills to make safe and informed decisions.
The Stay Safe Partnership brings together organisations and agencies to deliver preventative education, helping young people recognise potential risks, understand how to respond to challenging situations and know where to turn for support.
Throughout the day, students are participating in a series of interactive, age-appropriate workshops exploring five important areas of personal safety:
Gang recruitment – Raising awareness of how young people may be targeted or influenced, recognising warning signs and understanding how to seek help.
Healthy relationships – Exploring the importance of respect, trust, boundaries and positive relationships with others.
Online safety – Developing awareness of online risks and learning how to protect themselves and make responsible choices in the digital world.
Road safety – Reinforcing safe behaviours and responsible decision-making when travelling independently.
Alcohol and drugs – Understanding the risks associated with substance use, peer pressure and the importance of making informed choices.
Building confidence and independence
As our Year 7 students settle into secondary school life, they are beginning to experience greater independence, both in and beyond the academy. Stay Safe Day provides a valuable opportunity to explore real-life situations, ask questions and develop the confidence to make positive choices.
Through engaging activities and discussions, students are encouraged to think critically, recognise potential dangers and understand the importance of seeking advice and support when needed.
Working together to keep young people safe
At Walton Academy, safeguarding and student wellbeing remain central to everything we do. Initiatives such as stay safer day complement our wider personal development and PSHE curriculum, reinforcing important messages about safety, responsibility and respect.
We would like to thank Lincolnshire County Council’s Stay Safe Partnership and all the organisations involved in delivering today’s workshops and supporting our students with these valuable learning experiences.
