On Tuesday 11 October 2022 some of our year 9 students went on a trip to Lincoln FC.
The day itself was centred around a challenge to host a European football team. Our students were split into two teams – one French and one Spanish team.
The students were given a brief overview of the challenge and were expected to speak in either French or Spanish for most of the day’s activities. They were expected to create questions for a famous footballer, a manager, create a celebration menu and write a 200-word press release article. They also had to design and run a warmup session for another school before the main ‘match’… all of which was done in French or Spanish!!
Finally, the students got the opportunity to look around the stadium, hear from motivational speakers, professional footballers, and coaches. The students enjoyed hearing about these people’s experiences.
At the end of the day, the staff presented awards for individuals and teams. Walton won the entire competition. Our French team beat the rest of the schools (we are beyond proud of them) and now have VIP Hospitality tickets to see Lincoln play at a home game with a guest.
The trip had a tremendous impact on our students opinion of languages in general and no doubt will encourage them work even harder to become a linguist.
