Today, Walton Academy’s year 9 students are taking part in stay safe day, an important initiative delivered by Lincolnshire County Council’s Stay Safe Partnership. The programme equips young people with the knowledge and skills they need to make safe, informed choices as they navigate the challenges of growing up.

The Stay Safe Partnership brings together expert agencies who deliver evidence-based, age-appropriate workshops. Throughout the day, students explore a range of real-world issues that help them understand how their actions can affect themselves, their families and the wider community.

What students are learning

Year 9 students are taking part in focused sessions covering key safety themes, including:

  • Healthy relationships: Understanding harmful behaviours, recognising early signs of unhealthy relationships, and knowing how to seek support.
  • Online safety: Exploring misinformation, echo chambers and responsible digital choices, along with the legal implications of sharing harmful content.
  • Knife crime awareness: Learning about the law, joint enterprise, stop-and-search procedures and how to stay safe.
  • Drug and alcohol awareness: Understanding risks, the law around substances and how drugs affect people differently.
  • Fire safety: Practical guidance on staying safe at home and outdoors, and what to do in an emergency.

Helping students make safe choices

Some of the content explored during stay safe day is challenging, but it is designed to be age appropriate and relevant to the experiences of young people today. Students are encouraged to reflect on their choices, think critically, and consider how to keep themselves and others safe.

Our commitment

At Walton Academy, we remain committed to providing a well-rounded education that develops confident, responsible and informed young people. Stay safe day plays an important role in this, helping students build the awareness and resilience they need to make positive decisions both now and in the future.
