As part of our engagement programme with local primary schools, we have been delighted to welcome children in years 4, 5 and 6 to Walton Academy to attend our primary masterclasses over the last two weeks. Transition to secondary school is such an important milestone for every child, and understandably they have questions and at times concerns about what life looks like when they reach the next phase of their education. Every year, we work with local primary schools to offer children the opportunity to visit us to try some of the range of subjects on offer at the academy, and to experience a small taster of secondary school.
With the support of teaching staff, along with year 10 and post 16 students, our visitors have had fun making biscuits during the food masterclass, and rehearsing and performing songs from Matilda during the performance masterclass. They have had the chance to try some sports and equipment which might not be on offer at primary school during our PE masterclass. During our humanities session, the children learned about humanities subjects and then produced and confidently delivered some very impressive presentations to their classmates. Modern foreign languages staff gave the children a fun introduction to Spanish with a range of language learning activities.
Well done to everyone who attended. It has been an absolute joy to welcome you to the academy, and we know that with the huge enthusiasm you have shown us, you are going to make a very impressive start to life in your next school. Thank you to the staff and students who have made this programme of masterclasses possible.
As part of our wider transition programme with our new student cohort, staff are currently visiting our feeder primaries to meet the children who are joining Walton Academy in September 2023, and we are very much looking forward to getting to know them better during transition week in July.
