The Inspire+ Mini Olympics, which was rebranded to the Mini Commonwealth Games in celebration of the upcoming summer event, took place at the Meres Leisure Centre on Tuesday 14 June, until Thursday 16 June. Over the three days almost 40 students from year 9 to post 16 took part in the event which enabled them to demonstrate their leadership skills with primary schools at the event.

Some students were in charge of a practical activities, some were supporting the groups of students as they moved around and others had roles such as being on the water and sun cream station- a hugely important role at this year’s event, given the glorious weather we had! A couple of our students Katie S (year 9) and Darcy B (year 10) were even chosen to present at the games, welcoming everyone to the event and speaking in front of hundreds of people and introducing sporting celebrities as they took to the stage to address the crowds.

Our students demonstrated great leadership skills throughout the event, they were respectful and responsible at all times, and it was a pleasure to see them grow in confidence throughout the event and really get themselves involved. Students are already asking if they can go again next year!

We would like to say a huge thank you to Inspire+ and their staff for all the time and effort they put into putting on this huge event, and providing our leaders with such a great opportunity to get involved in the community.
