At Walton Academy, we are dedicated to guiding students toward a successful future. As part of this commitment, we are hosting next steps days, a comprehensive careers guidance event taking place from Monday 18 November to Friday 22 November 2024, designed for students in years 7 to 11.

The week will be packed with activities and workshops designed to inspire, inform, and empower students to make confident decisions about their futures. We recognise that each student’s path is unique, and our goal is to provide them with the tools to embark on their individual journeys with confidence.

Engaging with experts

Students will have the opportunity to participate in workshops tailored to their stage of education. From hands-on activities exploring careers in engineering to sessions designed to boost employability and teamwork skills, the programme is diverse and practical.

Connecting careers with the curriculum

This year, every faculty has also developed resources linking their curriculum to career opportunities. Throughout the week, students will explore how the subjects they study on their timetables connect to real-world careers, helping them see the value of their learning in shaping their futures.

A focus on development

Equipping our students with real-world skills is at the centre of Next Steps Days. Sessions will include activities such as CV writing, interview preparation, and personal reflection tasks, helping students build self-awareness and confidence. These experiences are invaluable in preparing them for the next stage of their education and career planning.

Guided timetables for each year group

To ensure all students benefit fully from the week, each year group will follow a carefully tailored timetable:

  • Year 7: An introduction to future careers, creative thinking, and insight into further education opportunities.
  • Year 8: Exploring new career possibilities and skill-building sessions that encourage students to consider their potential futures.
  • Year 9: A focus on understanding personal strengths and interests, supporting students as they prepare to choose their GCSE options.
  • Year 10: Preparing for the world of work through workshops on employability and real-life skills.
  • Year 11: Guidance on life after school, including pathways into further education or training.

Looking ahead

Students will complete workbooks to record their learning and reflect on their experiences throughout the week. While mornings will be dedicated to careers-focused activities, afternoons will see students return to their regular lessons, providing a balanced and productive week.

By integrating career opportunities into the curriculum and creating these valuable experiences, Walton Academy continues to empower students to achieve their ambitions and make informed decisions about their futures. We are excited to see how they take their next steps with confidence and determination.
