On Tuesday 9 February, post 16 art students were lucky to have a virtual talk hosted by Daniel Rapley, course leader of the Art and Design Foundation Diploma at Lincoln College.

This was a great opportunity for students to learn about a future pathway, guiding and supporting a career in the arts. An Art Foundation Diploma is a one year course which allows students the chance to experience and develop a greater range of art specialisms and skills before applying to university. This includes painting, sculpture, ceramics, installation, textiles, fashion, graphics, printmaking, 3D, life drawing, photography and illustration.

Students opting for this one year course have more skills, knowledge and experience. They have a more refined and developed portfolio and far more confidence in their ability, which gives them a real edge when applying for university or seeking employment.

Students were shown photographs of the facilities and studios available at Lincoln College. They learnt the art school is separate, located in the historic quarter, close to The Collection Gallery and cathedral, so plenty of creative inspiration surrounding it’s students.

The art school is one of the oldest in the UK – so old that past students include Miss Williams! Students also learnt it has strong connections with the University of the Arts (UAL) in London. Students applying for any UAL course are automatically granted an interview. This even includes the prestigious Chelsea College of Arts.
And the icing on the cake….. it’s a free course!
