On 4 December 2018, 19 students from the year 12 and 13 Children’s Play Learning and Development course headed to the Great Wood Farm Early Years and Forest School to support their studies.
They took part in a ‘Forest School’ session to learn more about the movement and experience first-hand how it can support children’s learning and development.
Students arrived and had a briefing statement and then entered the woods and went to base camp. The Forest School leader gave a talk about the forest school programme and how they use it within their setting. The students were then given opportunities to explore the area, make dens, create concoctions in the mud kitchen or help light the fire.
During the morning students also got to whittle sticks to toast marshmallows, build houses for fairies and goblins and finish the session with a hot chocolate.
