During Walton Academy’s community week, a series of performing arts workshops have been taking place. This week-long programme features a range of activities designed to enhance students’ skills in production, drama, dance, singing, and technical aspects of theatre.
The week began with a production launch in the Walton Theatre. Excitement peaked with the great reveal of next year’s show. After months of anticipation, students finally discovered that next year’s performing arts show will be “The SpongeBob Musical”!
Following the launch, students attended sound and lighting sessions to lay the technical groundwork, while creative workshops focused on singing numbers like “Bikini Bottom Boogie” and “Poor Pirates” and drama rehearsals for specific scenes and auditions.
On Tuesday, the production team delved into script breakdowns, costume design, and set creation. Dance sessions explored “Bikini Bottom Day” and “When the Going Gets Tough”. The day culminated in auditions for dance, drama, and singing, involving all creative staff.
Today’s focus was casting principal roles, with a read-through and discussion of the opening number. Separate singing sessions for the ensemble and principals followed, leading to group rehearsals to master the opening number, ensuring everyone understood their roles.
Thursday will be dedicated to physical and vocal warm-ups and intensive rehearsals for the opening number. The production team will also finalise technical elements, including lighting and projection.
The culmination of the week’s hard work will be a showcase performance in the Walton Theatre attended by an invited audience.
Walton Academy’s community week not only showcases the talent within the school but also fosters collaboration and creativity. The enthusiasm and dedication seen throughout the week promise an exciting journey ahead. We eagerly anticipate watching “The SpongeBob Musical” come to life and witnessing the continued growth and success of our talented students.
