Walton Academy’s up-and-coming musicians showcased their talent, thanks to the Evolve Project, which lights the way for the musicians of tomorrow. This inspiring initiative is dedicated to nurturing the musical talents of students and providing them with hands-on experience in organising live music events.

On Monday 8 July, the Guildhall Theatre at the Grantham Guildhall Arts Centre was the venue for Walton Academy’s Evolve Group Showcase. Students prepared tirelessly, showcasing their diverse musical talents in a night filled with incredible performances.

What sets this event apart is the collaboration between students, teachers, Guildhall Theatre staff, and the Lincolnshire One Venues team. This partnership provides students with insights into every facet of the music industry. As part of the Evolve Project through the University of Lincoln, year 10 BTEC music students took charge of organising the entire concert themselves. Throughout the process, they developed industry-specific skills, including creating rehearsal schedules, managing time effectively, practicing self-discipline, collaborating with others, and ensuring health and safety.

In addition to performances by year 10 students, the show featured the Gold Arts Award band and stage management run by our technical theatre student team. The event was entirely student-led, from the performers to stage management, and from lighting to sound.

The Evolve Project continues to empower Walton Academy’s students, helping them to grow as musicians and as individuals. We look forward to seeing the future achievements of these emerging artists and celebrating their journey.
