Last week, members of our Walton Academy community travelled to Derby to complete a Prefabricated Access Suppliers’ and Manufacturers’ Association (PASMA) course, facilitated by HSS Training. The five staff and six Post 16 students spent the morning with HSS trainer Jack, learning about mobile access towers before sitting a formal exam. In the afternoon, they received practical training on safely building, operating, moving, and dismantling mobile access towers.
Each participant successfully passed the test and completed the practical training. They will soon receive a certificate and identification card, qualifying them to work with mobile access towers for five years. Our arts coordinator and arts technician are now in the process of purchasing a bespoke tower for use in the Walton Theatre. For the first time in Walton Academy’s history, students will be able to work on the lighting and sound rig in the theatre, gaining valuable skills in technical theatre and production arts.
This bespoke training course is part of the ongoing Walton Theatre strategy, a long-term project focused on skill development and knowledge transfer. The initiative engages local and national arts organisations with our Walton Academy community, providing opportunities for students and staff to collaborate with creative industry professionals and gain valuable, transferable skills.
